Historically, clients of facility service providers thought of the industry as single category solutions such as just building operations and maintenance (hard FM) or just support services (soft FM). But, increasingly, the definition of facility services is being expanded to include an increasing range of required services. Now, clients are seeking to contract with integrated facility management (IFM) providers who are responsible for both these traditional service categories, but can also offer things such as facility-related environmental, social, and governance (ESG) or sustainabilityrelated services. They may be called on to deliver catering, support smart workplace technologies, or provide on-demand services for a hybrid or co-working space. In short, the scope of a facility service provider is increasing to encompass a wide variety of services that impact building experiences
